What is it that fuels you?
For me, it’s connection and photography.
Hi there! I am Brittany, owner of Brittany Taigen Photography and the creative behind the lens.
Welcome!
I’ve been pursuing photography for about 10 years now exploring my voice as a photographic artist and gaining experience in a variety of different genres and mediums. One of my favourite parts of photography is that moment at a shoot where I see ‘THE’ shot. It is such a great feeling. Even better than that though, is when I get to share the final images with you and see the joy that they bring.
How did you get here?
As a young child I grew up in Tonga with an underwater disposable film camera ready at my side to capture the things that caught my little eye from tropical fish to friends and family.
At high school I took photography as a subject and really began to learn what it is that makes an image. An exploration into visual storytelling through photography helped develop my understanding and lead me to receiving a scholarship to a local photography retreat and achieve First in Photography at my final year in school. These achievements pushed me to consider photography as an option for my future.
An opportunity to work as a volunteer photojournalist in Nepal presented itself to me in my year after college. During that experience I had an incredible chance to explore a whole new place and way of life, but I felt as though there was so much more to learn in the world of creating images. You can view a collection of those images here
So, back in New Zealand I studied towards a Bachelor of Design and achieve First Class Honours majoring in Photography.
Most of my photographic work at this time was a bit more abstract and conceptual with a research basis. Feeling as though I needed to expand my work, I joined the team at Golden Light Photo & Film in Wellington to develop my portrait photography skills. I had many roles and captured many different clients for weddings, families, pets, engagements, babies and mothers to be.
Now here I am in Christchurch creating my photographic print art and doing portrait photography ready to start a new adventure as “Brittany Taigen Photography”.
I hope you will join me for the ride!
